Peacebuilding Update: January 2018

Happy New Year! 2018 is the New Year of Spreading the Peacebuilding! In 2017 we experienced a 46% increase of MN Peacebuilding Leadership Institute’s graduates compared to our first six years of instigating Peacebuilding trainings and events in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul. While we welcome the opportunities to help all communities become trauma-informed, resilience-oriented, and restorative justice-focused, we are clearly seeing a strong interest within our own immediate spheres of influence.

With gratitude, we were awarded grants to conduct STAR-Lite Trainings (Learning Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience in a Single Day) in the Twin Cities’ East Metro (Ramsey, Washington, and Dakota Counties) by The Saint Paul Foundation and the F. R. Bigelow Foundation. We are grateful for the assistance of our fine, enthusiastic East Metro Community Partners, listed at the bottom of the newsletter. By sharing these STAR-Lite trainings with their spheres of influence, 167 people registered for the September, October, and November 2017 trainings! Analysis of pre/post surveys revealed a statistically significant increase in confidence of trainees' ability to understand and address psychological trauma, break cycles of victimhood and violence, and build resilience with self-care strategies to transform psychological trauma into nonviolent power with practical, productive alternatives to revenge.

Please save the date for Wednesday April 25, 2018 and plan to join us for LUNAFEST: Minneapolis at the Riverview Theater. Notable Minnesotan Patty Wetterling will be our Honorary LUNAFEST Chairwoman for this inspiring, thought-provoking Peacebuilding evening of fun! Patty Wetterling is an advocate of children's safety and previous chair of National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Her advocacy particularly focuses on protecting children from abduction and abuse. Patty is a champion of Peacebuilding’s mission.

Together, transforming our communities peace by peace,
Donna L. Minter, PhD, LP
Founder & Executive Director
