One form of collective trauma that we recently learned about is that since 1851, obituaries in the New York Times have been dominated by white men. Today the NYT took responsibility for the harm these deliberate choices have caused for over 100 years. They took action to right this harm by publishing the obituaries of 15 notable women, which were previously not included in their newspaper upon their deaths. We look forward to other media outlets engaging in peacebuilding actions with similar creative practices of restorative justice.
